WAYNE & MARGARET CRANE

Wayne and Margaret Crane owned a business called Crane Leathercraft at 524 South Main, in the building known as The Crow's Nest. The owners of the building at the time were Mary and Sandy Ritter. The business was at that location in the spring of 1974 when we opened our plant shop in another space at the same address. Kenny Crane, their son, continued the business until sometime in the 90's. Wayne was a vocal and active participant in the Main Street issues. I remember that in the early days of Festival of the Little Hills, he would be among the crew to cut willows by the river for poles to build leather-lashed structures. (remembered by Holly Haddox)

I think what impressed me the most about Wayne was the fact he always put the street first. He would just close his shop to visit schools or help with tours on South Main portraying Daniel Boone. (remembered by Phyllis Muresan)
